- Account Manager John Deere, Caterpillar

Tell us about your co-workers, your department team; what are your proudest accomplishments?
If I had to point to one achievement, it would be our winning the John Deere Partner/Supplier Award the last three years in a row. That means a lot because John Deere has over twelve thousand suppliers and there are only one hundred winners a year. Our team really had to achieve consistently top-notch performance to win that John Deere Aware.
What's different about the corporate culture at Valspar?
It's more collaborative, more creative. I've worked at places where each department is a standalone silo. But at Valspar, if you're facing a challenge, people in other departments will go above and beyond to help you succeed.
Another difference-at Valspar your supervisor and the management are actively involved in helping you advance your career. We work out three or five year career plans and set goals and objectives to help you move your career forward.
What's a typical day at work? What are the challenges? What makes your career fulfilling?
I'm a supply chain manager, so I spend the day speaking with suppliers, working on prices, and also working with my team to reduce costs and produce solid sales forecasts and estimates.
If you had to say one thing to a job candidate considering a position at Valspar what would it be?
Valspar rewards performance, so if you do great work at Valspar, you can expect recognition, not just from your peers but from upper management. That's what the Elite awards are about. I'd also have to say a positive attitude is essential. You can have all the education and experience in the world, but you must also have a good attitude to thrive at Valspar.
