Tell us about life at Valspar.
We are a small team of 3 and work well together and also work well with all other departments. Most of the time working here is just like being in a big family. Yes, of course there are times people here disagree, that is because we all want to do what we consider is best for Plasti-kote, but there is also a great sense of belonging.
Your proudest accomplishment at Valspar?
My proudest accomplishment was receiving the Elite Award. That's an award your co-workers give you. If you are lucky enough to be recognized by your managers-that's great of course, but for your peers to show their approval of you and what you do is quite amazing. I still have to pinch myself to believe that this happened.
What's different about the corporate culture at Valspar?
There are many benefits from working in a large corporate organization. I have been lucky enough to meet with people at other sites both in the UK and abroad. This is not an opportunity that had been available to me in the past. I like the way that we are encouraged to train in order to improve ourselves and keep up with ongoing developments in technology. This is beneficial to both employee and employer.
If you've worked for other companies, how did they compare with Valspar?
I have been quite lucky in my previous employments. However, the fact that I have been allowed to expand both my role and my experience over the past 4 years has let me grow in strength and opened me to opportunities I would not have even considered possible before.
What's a typical day at work? What are the challenges? What makes your career fulfilling?
Because I am both account receivable (incorporating other duties alongside) and also the Health & Safety Chairperson, there are never two days alike. This is good for me. I can be allocating monies received one minute and arranging a fire drill the next. It's great.
If you had to say one thing to a job candidate considering a position at Valspar what would it be?
Go for it.
