In business since 1806, Valspar is the only major coating manufacturer in the world that focuses solely on coatings and inks, and we are the world's largest coatings supplier to the metal packaging industry and the second largest in Wood coatings. Following their global customer base, Valspar expanded into South Africa in 1996 with the acquisitions of Coates Coatings and the Dexter Corporation in 1999.

The base factory is set on a site of some 15 600 square meters in the industrial area of Jacobs, Durban. It boasts 2 700 square meters of production, 1 600 square meters of warehousing and a staff compliment of 100. The laboratories are equipped with state of the art equipment and are staffed by 30 highly trained and experienced technicians with more than 300 years of experience in the speciality coatings industry.

Valspar South Africa provides a comprehensive range of products which include:

• Coatings and inks for rigid packaging, i.e., beverage cans, food, diversified packaging, drums, closures and crowns
• Factory applied coatings for wood, industrial customers and original equipment manufacturers
• Interior protective coatings and external basecoats and overvarnishes with highest abrasion resistance for aluminium monobloc aerosol cans and bottle cans
• UV varnishes, waterbased varnishes and laminating adhesives for the Graphic Arts market
• Primers, coatings and varnishes for industrial coils on steel, HDG and aluminium for the building industry
• Car refinish paint
